PAWTUCKET, R.I. - First-year Angel Ramirez and senior Katelyn Terry from the Keene State track and field program, along with junior Hope Walsh from the Keene State swimming and diving team, earned Little East Conference (LEC) Weekly honors, following their performances over the weekend, as announced by the conference office.
Men's Track and Field
Ramirez, from Concord, N.H., earns the title of Little East Conference Men's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after an impressive debut performance at the Smith Winter Classic. The freshman started his college career with a third place finish for a leap of 6.72 meters in the long jump, a qualifying mark for both the New England Division III Championship and the ECAC Championship meets.
Women's Track and Field
Terry garners the title of Little East Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week after her strong performance at the first meet of the season, the Smith Winter Classic. The senior, from Strafford, N.H., finished first in the 800 meter run in a New England Division III Championship qualifying time of 2:26.08 and was runner-up in the mile run with a time of 5:26.13.
Women's Swimming and Diving
Walsh was named the Little East Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week after she placed fourth overall in the 1,650 freestyle with a personal best time of 17:21.95, a NCAA B-Cut, at the MIT Invitational. The junior from Hampden, Mass. broke her own school record in that event by almost four seconds. Walsh was also fifth in the 500 free (5:10.67), 14th in the 200 back (2:10.74), and 12th in the 200 free (1:58.5).
