PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Two Owls were recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) for their oustanding efforts over the past week, as junior Molly St. Germain of the Keene State softball program was named the Pitcher of the Week and freshman Matthew Lemke of the Keene State men's lacrosse program was named the Rookie of the Week, it was announced today.
St. Germain, a native of Dover, N.H., was named LEC Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season after appearing in four games for the Owls. She recorded four strikeouts in a complete game effort in the opener of a doubleheader against Western New England University, then came back with 1.2 innings of relief to pick up the save in the Owls' 2-1 (where she also hit the go-ahead homerun) in the nightcap. The Owls' ace continued with another complete game, striking out eight and scattering five hits in a 1-0 win over Western Connecticut State, followed by another inning of hitless relief against the Colonials in the second contest of the day.
Lemke earned the title of LEC Rookie of the Week, after playing an intergral part of the Owls' third straight win and league victory over Salem State. Against the Vikings, Lemke racked up 10 ground balls and went 16-for-19 from the face-off 'x'. From Agawam, Mass., Lemke is tied for fifth in the LEC in ground balls with 54 and is fourth in face-offs (118-of-207).
