Three Owls Selected to play in NEIBA All-Star Game
KEENE, N.H. 5/24/12 – Three Keene State College baseball seniors have been selected to play in the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game on June 4th at LeLachueur Park in Lowell, Mass. Game time is set for 7 pm, at the home of Boston Red Sox minor league affiliate, the Lowell Spinners.
Kyle Morrill, Erik Bergstrom and Peter Burgio have been picked to play for the College Division team, consisting of 12 Division II standouts, and 16 Division III all-stars. Keene State received the most selections of the Division III schools, with three Owls’ on the 28- man roster.
The College Division team will square off with the University team, comprised of all Division I players from across the region.
Post-season honors keep on rolling in from Morrill. The Owl’s centerfielder has already been selected on the All-LEC First team, All-NEIBA First Team, and the D3Baseball All-Region team. The Auburn, N.H. native finished second in the Little East Conference in batting average (.431). He was also among the top five in the conference in hits (69), runs (53), RBIs (44), triples (7) and total bases (101). His resume included at least 1 hit in 34 of the 42 games he started, with 23 multiple-hit games.
Bergstrom received recognition as an ALL-LEC First team selection, and was voted on to the D3Baseball All-Region team. He was also selected on to the All-NEIBA Second team. The Enfield, Conn. native led the Little East Conference in RBIs (57) and was tied for first in doubles (17). He finished fifth in the conference in batting average, hitting .396. Bergstrom was selected as part the D3Baseball team of the week on April 2nd.
Burgio put together a solid senior season for the Owls’, after missing his junior year due to an injury. The senior from Bolton, Conn. finished top five in the conference in RBI’s (44) and doubles (15). He also led the Owls’ on the base paths with 16 steals on the season. Burgio was selected on the All-NEIBA Second team on May 16th.
