LEESBURG, FLA. 3/15/13 – The Keene State College baseball team wrapped up its spring week trip to Florida by dropping a 15-12 slugfest to Suffolk University at Pat Thomas Field in Leesburg, Fla. on Friday.
Freshman lead-off hitter Billy Hartmann (Greenland, N.H.) had three hits and scored four runs and senior Greg Bates (Salem, N.H.) cracked a three-run home run, the Owls' second round tripper of the season, to lead Keene State (5-9).
Keene State put up a crooked number in the first three innings, scoring two runs in the first and second and three more in the third to go up 7-3. Bates hit his three-run home run in the bottom of the third.
The Rams (6-1) came back with five runs in the fourth to go up 8-7.
Freshman Cody Dube (Windham, Maine.), who finished the game with three RBIs, brought home two runs with a single through the right side to put the Owls back on top 9-8 after five innings.
Suffolk scored four runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead 12-9. Keene State got one run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Rams tacked on three more runs in the eighth to go up 15-10.
KSC got its final two runs in the bottom of the eighth with Hartmann getting an RBI single.
Andrew Gummow (Brookline, Mass.) and Dube each finished with two hits for the Owls, who had 13 hits in the game.
Junior Jake Cintolo and sophomore JC Collette each had four hits and two RBIs to lead the Rams.
Senior Wil Francis (West Hartford, Conn.) the fourth of five pitchers used by KSC Coach Ken Howe, took the loss.
Keene State is scheduled to begin the northern portion of i's schedule with a home game against Daniel Webster College on Sunday, March 24. (1 p.m.).
