Benning and Stossel net ECAC field hockey honors


The top-seeded Owls will host Suffolk in an opening-round game on Wednesday

KEENE, N.H. 11/3/09 - Keene State's Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.) and Vikki Stoessel (Derry, N.H.) were named ECAC Division III New Engalnd co-offensive and defensive players of the week respectively on Tuesday.

Carly Benning - Keene State College

Senior, Forward, Brewster, Mass.

Benning tallied five goals in the Owls' 3-0 week. She had one goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over New England College. She netted a pair of markers each in victories over Smith and UMass- Dartmouth on Thursday and Saturday. Benning registered the game-winning goal against the Pioneers and Corsairs.

Defensive Player of the Week

Vikki Stoessel - Keene State College Senior, Goalkeeper, Derry, N.H.

Stoessel posted a 0.80 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in the Owls' 3-0 week. She had five saves and notched her ninth shutout of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 win over New England College. Stoessel played a scoreless first half in Thursday's 3-1 win against Smith, making six saves before yielding to a substitute for the second half. She saved her best for last, posting a 13-save performance in the Owls' 3-2 win over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday. Stoessel stopped a Corsair penalty shot in the final seconds of play to preserve the victory.
