Men's Lacrosse To Face No. 4 Amherst In NCAA Championship Second Round

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State men's lacrosse program will face nationally-ranked Amherst in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Wednesday, May 9, as the Owls will travel to Amherst, Mass. after receiving a first round bye.

Keene State is making its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament and ninth overall. The Owls are 2-8 overall in the NCAA tournament and have advanced to the second round in 2007 and 2010, with their last win in the NCAA tournament coming against Castleton State during the 2010 season.

Keene State earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament by defeating Eastern Connecticut State 24-8 to earn the Owls' fifth straight Little East Conference (LEC) championship title and ninth overall. Winners of nine in a row, the Owls have a record of 12-4. 

Despite losing to Tufts 20-12 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title game, Amherst reaches the national tournament by earning an at-large bid with an overall record of 14-3. The Mammoths are making their sixth NCAA tournament appearance. 

The two teams last met in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Championship Tournament, as Amherst topped Keene State, 12-8. 

The winner of the Keene State/Amherst matchup will advance and take on the winner of the York (Pa.))/Western New England game on Saturday, May 12.
