Women Tracksters Capture Fitchburg Invitational

'FITCHBURG, MASS.  4/10/04  -  Keene State College captured the  women's team championship at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Tack Meet at Fitchburg State College on Saturday.

 

Keene State tallied 162 points.  Host Fitchburg was second with 109 points.

 

Nicole Geyselaers (Cheshire, Conn.) won the 100-meter dash (13.09) and the long jump (16-01.75) and Erin Landon (Hampton, Conn.) placed first in the 800 (2:27.86) and 1,500 races (4:59.10) to lead the Owls.

 

Stephanie Westcott (Chester, Vt) also placed first in the 3,000 (11:13.49).

 

In field events, Meghan Duffy (Monroe, Conn.) took first in the discus with a throw of 103-03.

 

The Keene State men's team placed third with 93 points. UMass-dartmouth won the title with 192 points.

 

Ryan Gough (Billerica, Mass.) and Mike Burleson (Portland, Me.) placed first (2:01.23), and second (2:02.44) respectively in the 800-meter race to pace the Owls. Casey Cole (Southbury, Conn. was second in the 1,500 (4:10.70) and  Dave Bridgewater was the runner-up in the 3,000 event (8:41.31). KSC also placed first in the 4x400 relay.

 

In field events, Alex Berard (Uxbridge, Mass.) placed first in the long jump (19-0.3.00).  Matt Cerruto (Torrington, Conn.) won the hammer (137-03).
