Six Owls Earn Weekly LEC Honors
N. Dartmouth, Mass. 4/23/12 – Six Keene State College student athletes were honored with player of the week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Men’s
Track Athlete of
the Week
Kevin Hoyt (Newtown, Conn.), Senior, Keene State
College
Hoyt captured the 5,000-meter run this past weekend at the
Springfield Invitational. The senior from Newtown, Conn. covered
the distance in 15 minutes, 56.33 seconds to 12-person field.
Men’s
Rookie Field
Athlete of the Week
Ben Keach (Newfields, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State
College
Keach recorded a pair of top-5 performances at the Springfield
Invitational this past weekend. The freshman from Newfields, N.H.
placed third in the discus event throw (40.21 meters) and fourth in
the javelin (51.27 meters).
Women’s
Track Athlete of
the Week
Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.), Junior, Keene State
College
Fitter posted an NCAA provisional time in the 800-meter run this
past weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton
University. The junior from Branford, Conn. completed the distance
in a time of two minutes, 14.95 seconds.

Athlete of the Week
Samantha Folland (Newfields, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State
College
Folland registered a toss of 32.97 meters to place fourth in the
discus throw at the Springfield College Invitational this past
weekend.
Softball
Rookie of the
Week
Samantha Nitso (Londonderry, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State
College
Nitso hit .615 (8-for-13) with three doubles and seven runs batted
in to help Keene State post a 3-2 mark. The freshman from
Londonderry, N.H. registered at least one hit in each game,
including two multi-hit contests. She went 3-for-4 with a double
and three RBI at UMass Boston on April 18.
Baseball
Rookie of the
Week
Tanner Chase (York, Maine), Freshman, Keene State
College
Chase hit safely in four out of his five appearances to post a .381
batting average (8-for-21) to lead Keene State to a 4-1 mark this
past week. The freshman from York, Maine went 2-for-3 from the
plate against Fitchburg State with four runs batted in. Chase
combined to go 4-for-10 with a pair of RBI as the Owls swept Little
East foe UMass Boston on April 21.
