LEC Honors Eight Owls

N. Dartmouth, Mass. 10/4/10 – The Little East Conference office gave eight Keene State College student-athletes weekly honors on Monday.

Volleyball
Offensive Player of the Week
Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.), Junior, Setter, Keene State College
Whalen paced the Keene State offense in four matches at the Oneonta State Invitational this weekend, averaging 40.25 assists. The junior from Niantic, Conn. tallied a career-high 60 assists in a 3-2 loss to Oneonta State.  Whalen then followed with 36 assists in a 3-0 win over SUNYIT and again in a 3-1 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology. The Owls went 4-2 on the week to improve to 11-8 for the season. 

Women’s Soccer
Defensive Player of the Week
Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.), Junior, Back, Keene State College
Hennessey played a key role at both ends of the field leading Keene State to a pair of wins. The Essex Junction, Vt. native helped the Owls sport an 1.5 goals against average against Worcester State and Rhode Island College. Hennessey also produced four assists on the week, including three against the Anchorwomen.  

 

Men’s Soccer
Offensive Player of the Week
Joe Senecal (Manchaug, Mass.), Sophomore, Forward, Keene State College
Senecal scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Keene State to a 1-0 win over Rhode Island College. The Manchaug, Mass. product provided the decisive strike in the 99th minute to hand the Anchormen their first conference loss of the season and keep the Owls undefeated at 3-0.

Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.), Junior, Keene State College
Loonan finished ninth to lead the Keene State men’s squad to a third place finish in the Keene State College Invitational with 94 points. The junior clocked a time of 26 minutes, 46 seconds on the five mile course.

Rookie Runner of the Week
Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine), Freshman, Keene State College
Widzgowski was the Owls’ second-fastest runner at the Keene State Invitational on Saturday. He placed 15th with a time of 27 minutes, three seconds. Keene State finished third in the team standings with 94 points.

Women’s Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Junior, Keene State College
Running on her home course, the Owl junior raced to a first place finish at the 16th Annual Keene State College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Mills covered the 5-Kilometer course in a winning time of 18 minutes, 14 seconds. Keene State finished third in the eight-team field with 93 points.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week
Aislynn Sherry (Rehoboth, Mass.) , Junior, Forward, Keene State College
Sherry produced five goals for 10 points this past week as Keene State posted a 2-0 mark in Little East action this past week.  The Rehoboth, Mass. product registered her first hat trick of the season, including the game-winner, in a victory over Western Connecticut on Oct. 2. Earlier in the week, Sherry netted a pair of markers in the win over Westfield State.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Maine), Senior, Keene State College
Ledoux posted a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in a pair of shutouts this past week. The Standish, Maine product stopped all 11 shots she faced on the week, including six against Westfield State.
