Haley and Laura Chandler Earn 1st-Team All-LEC Honors
N. DARTMOUTH, Mass. 5/11/10 – Keene State College softball sophomores Haley and Laura Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.) earned 1st-Team All-Little East Conference as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Haley Chandler leads the Owls in hitting, with a .403 batting average on a team-high 58 hits and a .452 on-base percentage on the season. She is also second on the squad in homers with seven and has swiped 18 bases in 24 attempts. Laura Chandler, who is batting .384 with a team-high eight home runs and .671 slugging percentage, also drove in 32 runs and is a perfect 16-for-16 in stolen base attempts.
The Owls, also placed four players on the 2nd-Team All-LEC. Senior catcher Stephanie Lavado (Wallingford, Conn.), sophomore pitchers Emily Albin (Bethel, Conn.) and Courtney Savoie (Stratham, N.H.) and freshman third-baseman Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.).
Lavado, KSC’s senior captain, batted .373 for the Owls from behind the plate. This season she smacked four homers and drove in 26 runs. Defensively, she has thrown out 10 base-stealers and picked off four runners on the season.
Albin goes into this weekend’s ECAC tournament 9-1 with a 2.21 era on the season with 94 strikeouts. She also leads the Owls in innings pitched with 85.2
Savoie also has nine wins on the season going into the tournament. She has pitched 80.0 innings with 61 strikeouts in 18 appearances for the Owls.
Nicole Dupuis is the lone freshman earning All-LEC honors for the Owls. The clean-up hitter is batting .391 with 43 hits in 110 at-bats on the year. She leads KSC in RBI’s with 33 and has also hit three homers this season.
The Owls return to action this weekend as the #1 seed in the ECAC Northeast Tournament. They will play their first game on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the winner of Anna Maria and Bridgewater State.
