KEENE, N.H.--The six game win streak of the Keene State College women's lacrosse team came to an end with an 8-6 loss to Roger Williams University in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
KSC, which also suffered its first home defeat of the season, is now 10-4. The Hawks move over .500 at 8-7.
The teams traded goals throughout the first half. Eliza Witherbee got the Owls started with a free position goal with 26:04 on the clock, but Roger Williams countered with McKenna Everding's marker less than three minutes later. Kelly Chadnick put Keene State in front again, only to see the Hawks responed through Deven Machette. Christa Demovellan made it 3-2 in favor Keene State, but Roger Williams knotted the score before the break thanks to Samantha Davenport's first goal of the night.
Coming out of halftime, the Hawks took a quick lead on a pair of goals by Kristen Pingree. The first came 27 seconds in off a pass from Davenport, and the second on a free position shot with 28:05 to go.
Kelsey Rahilly put the Hawks in front for good at the 24:17 mark, and Pingree made it 7-5 with 21:41 on the clock. KSC pulled one back with Witherbee's second of the game and 32nd of the season with 7:10 left. The Owls had the ball in the back of the net on another goal from Witherbee, but it was ruled out for an illegal stick.
Roger Williams added an insurance goal when Davenport scored, unassisted, with 3:14 to go. Erin Taylor made a season high 15 saves for the Owls.
Keene State will look to begin a new streak when they host New England College on Thursday night at 6 p.m. Roger Williams closes out the season by traveling to Nichols on April 23 for a 7 p.m. start.
