Grant named to women's soccer district Academic All-America team

Grant is the first women's soccer player at KSC to earn Academic All-America honors

KEENE, N.H. 11/3/09 - Keene State College's Jacyln Grant has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's soccer team.  She is the first Owl women's soccer player to receive the honor.

The senior back from Newington, Conn. has gotten the job done on the field and in the classroom at Keene State this year.  In addition to anchoring a stingy Owl defense that has allowed just four goals in Little East play, Grant has excelled in the classroom as an elementary education major.

"Hard work carries over from the classroom to the field," said Grant.  "It's a great honor to be recognized in both areas.  I take a lot of pride in being a well-rounded student athlete."

Grant, who has started in all of Keene State's 20 games this season, was one of five seniors honored prior to last Saturday's final home regular season game against Southern Maine.  "It's scary, I never thought this day would come," said Grant, who has also contributed offensively with two goals and an assist.  "I couldn't think of a better way to end my career than winning a Little East Championship."

Looking for its first conference championship since 2004, Keene State (13-5-2), the top seed in the LEC tournament, will host either Southern Maine or Western Conn. in a semifinal game on Thursday.
