Six Owls Earn Weekly LEC Honors
N. Dartmouth, Mass. 10/10/11 – Six Keene State College fall student-athletes were awarded Player of the Week honors as announced by the Little East office on Monday afternoon.
Women’s Soccer
Defensive Player
of the Week
Erin Griffin (Londonderry, N.H.), Junior, Back, Keene State
College
Griffin helped anchor the Keene State defense that did not
surrender a goal in two matches this past week. The native of
Londonderry, N.H. and her teammates posted shutout victories over
Framingham State and Eastern Connecticut.
Women’s
Soccer Goalkeeper of the
Week
Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.), Senior, Keene State
College
Dempsey posted two shutouts for Keene State this past week. The
East Weymouth, Mass. made seven saves in a crucial 2-0 victory over
Little East rival Eastern Connecticut on Saturday. She did not have
to make a stop in 54 minutes of action against Framingham
State.
Female Runner
of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Senior, Keene State
College
Mills was the first Division III runner to complete the New England
Open Championships race. The native of Keene, N.H. covered the
course in a time of 18 minutes and 12 seconds to place 11th
overall.
Male Runner of
the Week
Kevin Hoyt (Newtown, Conn.), Senior, Keene State
College
Hoyt led the way for Keene State, finishing 61st at the New England
Open Championships this past weekend. The Newtown, Conn. product
finished the trail in 26 minutes and three seconds to lead the
Owls.
Field Hockey
Rookie of the Week
Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.),
Freshman, Goalkeeper, Keene State College
Davino-Draper backstopped Keene State to a 3-0 mark this
past week. The Hanover, Mass. native posted shutouts against Little
East Conference foe's Salem State and Worcester State. The freshman
goalkeeper made four stops on the week.
Volleyball
Offensive Player
of the Week
Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.), Senior, Keene State
College
Whalen finished the week with 167 assists in four matches for Keene
State College. The senior setter averaged 11.9 assists per set,
including 54 against in-state rival Plymouth State. The Niantic,
Conn. product also totaled 15 digs in the five-set loss to the
Panthers.
