Fitter, Guilmette Lead Owls at New England Division III Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. 5/5/12 - Keene State College juniors Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) and Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.) led the Owl track and field team's with first place finishes at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Teachnology on Friday and Saturday.
Fitter, whose time in the 800 meters was on the bubble to go to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in Claremont, California, jumped up to ninth in the nation with her time of 2:11.10 for the win. In third place going around the final curve, the Branford, Conn. product passed the only two competitors in front of her to edge her closest competitor by .18 seconds.
Guilmette was the lone victor for the Owls on the men's side, heaving the javelin 191'-6'' for the victory.
Also scoring for KSC in the javelin, sophomore Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, N.H.) placed eighth with her toss of 120'-3''.
The women's team finished in 19th with 11 points in the championship, while the men finished in 23rd with 10 points.
The Owls return to action next weekend, as they will head to Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday, again hosted by M.I.T.
