KEENE, N.H.--Year ending honors were bestowed on the standout members of the Class of 2019 at the Keene State College Senior Athletics Banquet at the Zorn Dining Commons on Sunday morning.
Female Senior Athlete of the Year
Volleyball standout Riley Bunker (Simi Valley, Calif.) was named the Female Senior Athlete of the Year. A four-year starter at the libero position, Bunker capped her career as KSC's all-time leader in digs, with 2,035, and was fourth all-time in service aces, with 199. She was twice the Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and was a Second Team All-Conference selection as a junior and a First Team All-Conference choice as a senior. The Owls won 86 games over her three years and appeared in the Little East Conference championship game three times.
Male Senior Athlete of the Year
Men's basketball star Ty Nichols (Springfield, Mass.) was picked as the Male Senior Athlete of the Year. Nichols finished his time in a KSC uniform as the Owls' all-time leading scorer, with 2,316 points, while leading the Owls to a pair of LEC tournament championships and one regular season title. Nichols also was the LEC Player of the Year his senior season, and named a First Team All-American by d3hoops.com and a Second Team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, as well as a three time All-Conference selection. Nichols' name appears in the KSC record books in a host of other categories, including single season and career marks for assists, steals, rebounds, scoring average, games played, field goals made, attempted, and percentage, and free throws made and attempted. In addition, State Senator Jay Kahn honored Nichols with a formal proclamation that was introduced at the State House in recognition of his accomplishments.
Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year
Samantha Sullivan (Littleton, Mass.) was named as the Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. A stalwart defender on the KSC women's lacrosse team, Sullivan is completing a degree in mathematics and education with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Sullivan served as the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, while helping the Owls to an LEC title in 2016, where the team won the first NCAA game in program history.
Male Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year
Jared Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) was the Male Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. A sprinter and jumper for the KSC track and field squad, Hannon is a five time LEC champion in both indoor and outdoor track, and holds the school record in the outdoor long jump and as part of the 4x200 meter relay team. He is set to graduate with a degree in management with a 3.83 GPA.
