Five Keene State Athletes Pick Up Little East Conference Weekly Honors

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - A season-high five Keene State College athletes were honored by the Little East Conference when the league office released their weekly awards on Monday.

Cross Country

Freshman Jacob Pearl (Orleans, Mass.) picked up his third Rookie of the Week and fourth conference honor overall this season after he finished in fifth place in a 182-person field this past weekend at the Western New England Invitational.  Pearl finished the 8K course in 26:31, the fastest of any runner from the Little East at the invite.

Senior Lauren Perkowski (Plantsville, Conn.) also continues to stack up the awards after being selected as the LEC Runner of the Week for the fourth time.  The Owl standout competed in the Western New England Invitational this past Saturday, finishing in 3rd place out of 198 runners with a time of 22:12 on the 6K course.

The Owls will next be in action at the Little East Championship in North Dartmouth, Mass. on November 2.

Women's Soccer

Senior Nicole De Almeida (Nashua, N.H.) has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week by the LEC for the first time this season after the Owls recorded two victories in their two games this week, extending their win streak to four games overall.  De Almeida has been part of a strong KSC back line all season long, with her speed on the defensive end helping limit opponents to just 1.62 goals per game, good for third in the conference.  Keene State has held opponents to just two goals total over the last four games, recording three shutouts in the process.

Women's Swimming and Diving

Junior Samantha Dickinson (Manchester, Conn.) earned her first LEC Swimmer of the Week award after taking three first place finishes in the pool as the Owls grabbed wins over St. Michael's and Norwich University in a tri-meet last Saturday.  Dickinson won the 50 yard backstroke in 29.80, the 100 backstroke in 1:04.63, and finished her performance with a victory in the 100 IM in 1:04.94.

For the second consecutive Monday, freshman Jaelin Jang (Fall River, Mass.) picked up the Rookie Swimmer of the Week after finishing in second place in three of her individual events.  She posted a time of 26.55 in the 50 yard free, 58.26 in the 100 yard free, and 2:06.34 in the 200 yard free.  Jang was also part of the 200 yard relay team, along with the aforementioned Dickinson, Sophie Hayes, and Kristyn Simoneau, that closed out the meet with a dominant win in the 200 free relay.  The group finished in 1:45.77, winning by nearly seven seconds.
