Francis Pitches Owls Over UMD in LEC Tourn.

'MANSFIELD, CONN. 5/7/03 – Keene State College's Buzzy Francis (Bedford, N.H.) scattered five hits and had two walks in a complete game effort to pitch the Owls to a 1-0 victory over UMass-Dartmouth in the opening round of the Little East Conference Tournament Wednesday in Mansfield, Conn.

KSC (12-21) will face Southern Maine in its second round game on Thursday (7 p.m.).

KSC, which had been swept (16-5 and 12-4) by the Corsairs on Saturday, scored the game's only run in the third inning when Tim Kendrick (Middletown, R.I.) led off with a single and was bunted to second by Mike Masseur (Warwick, R.I.) and took third on a ground out.  Nick Bujeaud (Lincoln, N.H.) followed with an RBI single.

UMass-Dartmouth (17-18-1) tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth as Francis (2-6) gave up a leadoff single and allowed his second walk. But with two outs, he got his fourth strikeout of the game to record his second complete game of the season.
