WESTFIELD, Mass.--Matt Boulay's 2-RBI single in the top of the eighth inning lifted Keene State College to a 4-2 win over Westfield State University in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.
Keene State ends a five game losing streak and is now 9-18. Westfield State dips to 17-7.
Noah Rizio pitched six innings, allowing just two unearned runs for Keene State. Steve Zadravec picked up the win with an inning of hitless relief. Nate Pedersen earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Joe Libby went 3-for-5 as Keene State took advantage of five errors by Westfield State.
Westfield State grabbed the lead back in the sixth thanks to an RBI groundout by Stephen Brown and a wild pitch.
The score remained 2-1 until the eighth inning, when Grainger singled with two outs, and moved all the way to third on a single to center from Austin Marino. Tanner Chase was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Boulay stroked a single that brought in Grainger and Marino for a 3-2 lead.
The Owls tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Libby singled and came around on an error.
The KSC bullpen shutdown Westfield State as Zadravec, Nick Nowak, and Pedersen combined to allow one hit over the final three innings.
Keene State heads to Plymouth State for a key LEC game on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
