M. Lax: Travis Pedley Scores Game-Winner over UMB

'BOSTON, MASS. 04/09/05 - Eric Momnie (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied five points on three goals and two assists to lead the Keene State College men's lacrosse team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 11-10, in a Little East Conference contest today at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The Beacons winning streak is halted at six games as they fall to 6-1 and 1-1 in LEC play, while the Owls improve to 3-4 and 2-0.



Momnie netted a man-up goal with 3:15 left to play in the fourth quarter to give Keene State a 10-9 edge and Travis Pedley (Bow, N.H.) scored his only goal of the afternoon just 53 seconds later to give the Owls a two-goal cushion at 11-9.  UMass Boston sophomore attackman Christopher Hanafin (Burlington, MA) pulled the Beacons to within 11-10 with just 1:44 remaining in the contest, but it would be as close as they would come as Keene State held on for the win.



The Owls scored the first two goals of the afternoon with tallies by Sean Panora (South Windsor, Conn.) and Momnie, but junior attackman Patrick Donlan (Norwell, MA) put UMB on the board to make it 2-1 after the first quarter.  Panora gave Keene State a 3-1 advantage, but a goal from sophomore attackman Ryan O'Rourke (Milton, MA), 30 seconds later, followed by a score from sophomore midfielder Nicholi Sullo (Vineyard Haven, MA) brought the Beacons even at 3-3 with 8:10 to play in the second stanza.  Ryan Hazleton (Chester, N.H.) and D.J. Clattenburg (Concord, N.H.) each scored a goal to counter for the Owls, but Donlan's second goal of the day made it 5-4 with 2:06 showing in the second period.  Momnie netted a goal for Keene State with 1:17 left in the second quarter to make it 6-4 at the intermission. 



UMass Boston took control early in the third period as O'Rourke scored at 9:11 and Hanafin netted a pair of goals in a span of 1:45 to give the Beacons their first lead of the afternoon at 7-6 with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter.  Panora countered with his third goal of the day just 53 seconds later to knot the tilt at 7-7 and Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, Mass.) and Hazleton each netted a goal to close out the quarter and put the Owls in front, 9-7 after three periods.  Hanafin found the back of the net for the Beacons at 12:48 of the fourth quarter and freshman middie Jonathan Ruiz (Longmeadow, MA) netted a goal at 11:31 of the final period to tie the score at 9-9.



Lauranazano finished with three points, including a goal, on the day for Keene State, while Hazleton netted a pair of goals and Meade McKay (Stratham, N.H.) collected two assists.  Hanafin ended the afternoon with four goals to lead UMB, while Donlan and O'Rourke each tallied four points with two goals and two helpers apiece.  Sophomore attackman Matt Ficarra (Syracuse, NY) contributed with a game-high three assists and Ruiz registered two points with a goal and an assist.



Sophomore goalie Nick Eaton (Rowley, MA) stopped 14 shots to for the Beacons, while Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H.0 made six saves for the Owls.



KSC will travel to rival Plymouth State University on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
