DANBURY, CONN. 4/19/11 – The Keene State College men's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games and remained undefeated in Little East Conference play with an 11-8 victory over Western Conn. State University in Danbury, Conn. on Saturday.
"A lot of teams are looking to pick us off," said KSC Coach Mark Theriault. "They came ready to play and took advantage of several unforced errors. Fortunately, we were able to right the ship and come back in the fourth quarter."
Junior Griffin Meehan (Avon, Conn.) netted four goals, including the game-winner late in the third quarter to lead the Owls (7-2, 2-0 LEC) to the win. He leads the team with 26 goals.
Tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter, KSC scored the last three goals of the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead at the break. Sophomore Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) had a man-down goal and junior defenseman Alex Cuomo (Scituate, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal during the fluffy.
After the Colonials pulled with one goal (8-7), the Owls responded with a pair of goals by Meehan and one by junior Jonathan Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) to go up 10-7. The two teams traded goals in a low-scoring fourth quarter.
Juniors Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.) and Matt Crimmins (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), senior Colin Barnett (Cheshire, Conn.), sophomore Kyle Peterson (Franklin, Mass.) also tallied single goals for the Owls.
Sean Macey had three goals to lead the Colonials (5-5, 0-2 LEC).
Sophomore Jason Leser (Brewster, N.Y.) made four saves for KSC. Tyler Martone stopped 11 shots for WCSU.
Keene State hosts Eastern Conn. in a key LEC march-up next Saturday (6 p.m.).
