KEENE, N.H. 5/4/11 – Keene State men's and women's lacrosse teams now know their opponents for their respective Little East Conference tournament semifinal games at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday.
The top seeded Keene State men's lacrosse team (12-2) will face fourth seed Western Conn. State University (10-6) at 3:30 p.m. Second seed UMass-Dartmouth (13-3) will host third seed Eastern Conn. (12-5) in the other semifinal game.
The second seed in the women's lacrosse tournament, Keene State (11-5) will go up against third seed Southern Maine (8-10) at 6 p.m. Top seed Eastern Conn. (8-7) faces fourth seed Western Conn. (9-8) in the second semifinal match-up.
The two semifinal winners in each tournament will meet for the championship on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
The Keene State men's lacrosse team edged Western Conn. (11-8) in their regular season meeting. The two teams have met just once in the tournament. The Colonials upset the Owls 14-13 in the semifinal-round of the 2008 tournament.
Keene State will be looking for its fourth LEC championship. They won the title in 2005, 2007 and 2010.
The Keene State women's lacrosse defeated Southern Maine (15-7) during the regular season. This will be the fifth meeting between the Owls and the Huskies in the LEC tournament. KSC won first-round games against USM in 2003 (18-3) and 2005 (16-7). Southern Maine has had better luck against Keene State in the semifinals, winning 17-16 in 2008 and 10-8 last year when they upset the top-seeded Owls.
Keene State won its lone LEC crown in 2009.
