PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Three meet records fell and the Owls won eight events overall to end the semester at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Saturday at the Providence Technical Center.
Angel Ramirez was .02 seconds off the school record in the 60 meter dash, winning the event in 7.19 seconds, which qualifies him for the New England Division III Championships. Brandon Castor was in second place in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 52.43.
Zach Coburn posted a win in the 1,000 meters, crossing the line in 2:44.72. Caleb Steever improved his mark in the high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters to win that event, while Jared Hannon won the long jump with a New England Division III championship qualifying mark of 6.72 meters,
Three meet records were set, starting with Laura Dawson in the 1,000 meters in a time of 3:08.18, which qualified her for the New England Division III championships. Also going to the New England Division III championships is Lynne Hebert, who qualified in the mile in 5:22.09.
Yet another record fell in the 3,000 meters, with Lauren Perkowski topping the field in 10:30.09, which also qualifies her for the New England Division III championships in that event, a week after qualifying in the 5,000 meters.
Dawson, along with Nicole De Almeida, Taylor Bisaillon, and Brittany Gravallese won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:19.63. Shannon Parks posted an NEDIII qualifying mark in the shotput, throwing 11.49 meters, improving on last week's mark by nearly one full meter.
