WORCESTER, MASS. 11/3/12 – Keene State swim teams kicked off their season by turning in some strong performances at the New England Invitational held at WPI on Saturday.
In addition to Keene State, women's teams from RPI, Assumption, Wheaton, and Wesleyan took part in the meet. Teams from Keene State, Tufts, RPI, WPI, and Wheaton comprised the men's field.
The Keene State men, which won 11 of 19 swim events, was led by junior Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) who won the 100-yard fly (43.01), the 100 back (54.34) and the 200 I.M. (1:57.43).
Individual winners included: junior Randall Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) in the 50 back (25.54), freshman Greg Youngstrom (West Haven, Conn.) in the 50 free (21.96), and freshman Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H.) in the 400 I.M. (4:18.39).
The Owls also swam to wins in the 400 medley relay (3:37.64), the 100 free relay (39.07), the 200 free relay (1:27.27) and the 400 free relay (3:13.95).
The Keene State women's team won 10 swim events. Sophomore Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman Jennifer French (Nashua, N.H.) were double-winners for the Owls. Pimer won the 400 I.M. (4:38.50) and the 100 breast (1:08.69) while French touched the wall first in the 1,000 free (10:44.43) and the 100 free (55.57).
Individual winners included: sophomore Julie Trodden (Reading, Mass.) in the 200 free (1:57.63), freshman Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) in the 50 free (25.87), junior Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) in the 500 free (5:18.22), and senior Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 50 fly (26.02).
Keene State gets right back in the pool on Sunday with a dual meet at Boston College (1 p.m.).
