Keene, NH 4/24/02 - Mo Deegan (Westport, CT) had three goals and
five assists including the game-winner with four seconds to play in
the first overtime to lift Eastern CT State University to a 12-11
Little East Conference women's lacrosse victory over host Keene
State College on Wednesday.
With the loss Keene State (8-5, 3-2 LEC) missed an opportunity
to secure second place in the Little East and get a first-round
tournament bye. With a win against R.I. College on Sat., Eastern CT
(10-3, 4-1 LEC) will get the second seed. KSC, which wraps up its
regular season on Sat. at Southern ME, will host a quarterfinal
game on Tues. April 30.
After Lindsay Carley (Newton, CT) gave ECSU a 10-9 lead with 41
seconds to play, Erin Mehner (Stamford, CT) sent the game into
overtime with a goal with just four seconds on the clock.
Samly Phonesavanh (Killingly, CT) and Deegan scored in the first
overtime to give the Warriors a 12-10 lead. Michelle Mason
(Fairport, N.Y.) netted her sixth goal of the game in the second
overtime to close the gap to 12-11, but KSC was unable to get the
equalizer. Mason now has 57 goals this season.
Natalie Kent (Billerica, MA.) also added two goals for KSC.
Both goalies came up with big saves in the highly contested
game. KSC's Colleen McSweeney (E. Longmeadow, MA.) finished with
nine saves while Erika Blozie (South Windsor, CT) made 12 saves for
ECSU.
It was the final home regular-season game for KSC seniors Erin
Boudreau (Framingham, MA.) Katie Giles (Nashua, NH), Brianne Manley
(Nashua, NH), Jen Edwards (Milford, CT) and Michelle Roy (Keene,
NH).
