PLYMOUTH, NH 5/3/02 - Lauren Davern and Mo Deegan had three
goals each to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University women's
lacrosse team to a 14-4 victory over Keene State College in a
Little East Conference semifinal tournament game played Friday at
Plymouth State College.
Keene State (9-7), the third seed in the tournament, concludes
its season by tying last year's record for most victories in a
season. Second seed Eastern CT (12-3) moves on to face top seed
Plymouth State in Saturday's championship contest. Plymouth State
defeated fourth seed UMA-Dartmouth 21-5 in the other semifinal
game. It is the first season the LEC is sponsoring the sport.
Keene State, which trailed throughout the game, fell behind 7-2
at the break. Michelle Mason's (Fairport, N.Y.) second goal of the
game made it 9-4 with 14:19 to play, but the Warriors answered with
the next five goals.
Mason and Natalie Kent (Billerica, MA.) had two goals each for
KSC. Mason completes her freshman season with 62 goals, 30 assists
and 92 points. She not only shatters KSC season records in all
three categories, but sets new career marks as well. Kent's 52
points (30 goals and 22 assists) are also a new season-high for the
sophomore attack player.
Colleen McSweeney (East Longmeadow, MA.) (10 saves) and Jaime
Litch (Addison, Vt.) (nine saves) bot saw action in goal for the
Owls. Erika Blozie stopped eight shots for ECSU.
