'KEENE, N.H. 4/22/03 – The Keene State
College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-4 non-conference game to
14th ranked Colby College in Keene on Tuesday. It was the first
meeting between the teams.
It was the third straight loss for the Owls who fall to 7-4.
Colby College (8-3) extended its winning streak to seven games with
the victory.
Colleen Murphy (Mansfield, MA.) had two goals and an assist to
lead KSC. Natalie Kent (Billerica, MA.) and Erin Mehner (Stamford,
CT) scored the other Owl goals.
Katie Trainor (Rye, N.H.) and Beth Ghilardi (Norwell, MA.) had
three goals each to lead the White Mules.
The Owls stayed with the nationally ranked Mules in the early
going before falling behind 11-3 at halftime.
Nicole Lemire (New Milford, CT) had a strong defensive game with
five ground balls and a cause turnover. Lauren Saunders (Fremont,
N.H.) set a KSC record with seven draw controls.
KSC goalies Jamie Litch (Addison, Vt.) with 13 saves and mandy
Gray (Sharon, MA.) with five saves had strong games in the net. :
Anna Schierberl Scherr (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished with nine saves
for Colby.
KSC hosts Southern ME on Thursday (4 p.m.)
