GRAFTON, MASS. 11/6/04 - The Keene State College men's and
women's cross country teams finished fourth and seventh
respectively at the ECAC Division III Championships held at the
Tufts Farm Course in Grafton, Mass. on Saturday.
The Keene State men's team tallied 143 points to finish behind
champion Tufts University (70 points) in the 34-team field.
Matt Haley (Middleton, Mass.) finished sixth (27:28) to lead the
Owls on the 8K course. He was followed to the finish line by Weston
Forsblad (Danville, N.H.; 16th/27:48), Joseph Reynolds (Bryant
Pond, Me.; 27th/28:11), Dan Touhey (Springfield, Mass.;39th/28:25),
and Luke Marcum (Pelham, N.H.; 65th/29:00).
Salem State's Fabian Mejia won the individual championship with
a time of 26:27.
The Keene State women's team had 173 points. Williams College
won the team title with 24 points in the 24 team field.
Stephanie Westcott (Chester, Vt.) led the way for the Owls with
a 17th place (23:59) performance on the 6K course. Other top
finishers for KSC included Shannon O'Brien (Tilton, N.H.;
33rd/24:30), Allison Fergione (Marlborough, Conn,; 38th/24:44),
Chepina Witkowski (Keene, N.H.; 45th/24:52), and Krystin Gavin
(Brimfield, Mass; 53rd/25:01).
Joellen Arons of Coast Guard was the individual women's champion
with a time of 22:50.
Keene State competes next week at the New England Division III
Regional Championships in Cumberland, Me.
