W. Lax: Owls Shut Down by Plymouth State

'PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) scored four goals and three assists ad classmate Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) contributed four goals and two assists Thursday afternoon as the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 15-3 Little East Conference victory over rival Keene State College at Arold Field.

The Panthers improved to 9-0 overall this spring with their 18th consecutive victory, dating back to last season.  Two-time defending champion PSU is also 4-0 in conference play this season, and 19-0 in three years against LEC foes.  Keene State, which is in second place in the LEC, drops to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference games.

Senior Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) also contributed to the Panther offense with a goal and two assists apiece.  Junior Katie O'Donnell (Plymouth, N.H.) added a goal and an assist, and senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) and freshmen Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.), SeaSea Fuhrman (Lakewood, Co.) and Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) chipped in with one goal apiece.

Plymouth State jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Keene State got on the board midway through the first half.  The Panthers answered with five more unanswered goals to take a 10-1 lead at halftime, and were never challenged in the second half.

Sophomore Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y.) led the Owls with a pair of goals, while senior Erin Mehner (Stamford, Conn.) had one goal and sophomore Colleen Murphy (Mansfield, Mass.) had one assist.  Junior Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.), the conference's third-leading scorer, was kept off the scoreboard by the stingy Panther defense.

PSU senior goalie Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) finished with 11 saves to improve her record to 9-0 this season and 31-4 in her career.  Keene State senior Jamie Litch (Addison, VT) finished with 14 saves.
