'NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Keene State College women's lacrosse
team converted nine of the last 10 goals, including the final six,
in a 13-8 road win over Colby-Sawyer College at the Kelsey Athletic
Fields. Trailing 7-4 with time winding down in the first period,
the Owls (9-3) reduced their upcoming halftime deficit to two when
Colleen Murphy (SO, Mansfield, MA/Mansfield HS) scored with one
second on the clock.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half, Keene State knotted
the game at 7-7 and the Chargers (4-7) took their final lead of the
day on a goal by Becky Schaffer (SO, Lakeland, FL/Westminster (CT)
School) with 17:58 remaining. Alexandra Manzin (SO, Avon, CT/Avon
HS) then began the Owls' game-closing 6-0 run with an assist from
Michelle Mason (JR, Fairport, NY/Fairport HS) 21 seconds later.
Murphy led everybody with six goals, while teammates Mason,
Lauren Saunders (SO, Fremont, NH/Pinkerton Academy), and Kristal
Lundegaard (SO, Babylon, NY/West Babylon HS) each scored twice.
Manzin chipped in one goal to the victory. Keene State's Jamie
Litch (SR, Addison, VT/Vergenes HS) registered 15 saves in the net.
Schaffer tallied four goals and an assist and Megan Geer (JR,
Peterborough, NH/ConVal HS) notched two goals. Lisa Falconi (JR,
Waterville Valley, NH/New Hampton School) and Elise Gramaglia (FR,
Hicksville, NY/Hicksville HS) scored once apiece for Colby-Sawyer.
The Chargers remain in the Granite State for a non-conference
game at Plymouth State University on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.). Keene
State will travel to Gorham, Maine on Thursday to play Little East
Conference opponent University of Southern Maine (4:00 p.m.).
