'KEENE, N.H. 4/24/04 - The Keene State College women's lacrosse
team had its three game winning streak snapped with a 12-10 Little
East Conference loss to Eastern Connecticut State University at Owl
Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Owls, who have never beaten Eastern Connecticut, fall to
10-4 and 4-2 in the conference. The Warriors improve to 6-6
and 3-2. Keene State's seed in the upcoming Little East
Conference Tournament is contingent upon the outcome of the Eastern
Connecticut/Southern Maine contest on Sunday.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) had four goals to lead the
Owls. Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y.) and Steph Georgevits
(Concord, N.H.) each tallied a pair of goals, while Colleen Murphy
(Mansfield, Mass.) and Natalie Kent (Billerica, Mass.) added single
goals.
Mo Deegan (Westport, Conn.) led the Warriors with five goals and
three assists.
The first 10 minutes of the game was a back and forth battle
between the Owls and the Warriors. KSC scored the last goal
of the first half to take an 8-4 lead going into the break.
Eastern Connecticut returned from the half to close the deficit
to 8-6 on goals by Kara Mastroianni (Newington, Conn.) and
Deegan. KSC scored the next two on goals from Mason and
Murphy to make it 10-6, but would not score again the remainder of
the game. The Warriors scored the next six goals of the match
for a 12-10 come-from-behind victory.
Jamie Litch (Addison, Vt.) finished with five saves for
KSC. Erika Blozie (South Windsor, Conn.) made nine saves for
Eastern Conn.
Keene State gears up for the Little East Conference Tournament
beginning on Tuesday, site and time yet to be determined.
