'BOSTON, MASS.. - Ryan Gough and Jennifer Adams turned in strong
performances to lead their respective Keene State men's and women's
cross country teams at the New England Championships held Saturday
at Boston's Franklin Park.
Running on a slow course due to the rain, Gough, a senior from
Billerica, Mass., led through four and a quarter miles, but faded
at the end to finish sixth on the five mile course with a time of
25:09.
Brown University won the team title with 40 points. KSC placed a
respectable 13th with 401 points in the 47 team field. Own Washburn
of Brown claimed the individual title with a wining time of 24:56.
Other top finishers for the Owls included Joesph Hegarty
(Springfield, Mass.)(21st/25:37), Matt Haley (Middleton, Mass.)
(60th/26:26), and Weston Forsblad (Danville, N.H.)
(145th/27:19). Coming back from injures, Kevin Kelleher
(Rocky Hill, Con.) was 169th (27:31) and Pat Ard (Kingston, N.H.)
was 174th (27:35).
Becoming one of the top Division III runners in New England,
Adams, a sophomore from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., finished 11th on
the 5K course with a time of 18:27.
Boston University won the women's team championship with 56
points. The Owls had 674 points to place 26th in the 44 team field.
Quinnipiac's Katie Gwyther won the individual title with a time of
16:54.
Other top finishers for the KSC women were Shannon O'Brien
(Tilton, N.H.) (124th/19:58), Sophie Holly (Ledyard, Conn.)
(137th/20:07), Krystin Gavin (Brimfield, Mass.) (184th/20:36), and
Stephanie Westcott (Bellows Falls, Vt.) (218th/21:08).
