W. Lax: Owls Run Out of Time Against Springfield

'KEENE, N.H. 3/24/05 - Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) and Ashley Martell (Billerica Mass.) had three goals each to lead Springfield College to a 10-9 win over Keene State College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played Thursday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex.

Eidse scored the eventual game-winner at the 9:39 of the second half to give the Pride a 10-7 lead.  KSC's Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon. N.Y.) and Christina Honeycutt (Weare, N.H.) scored goals 22 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 2:13 remaining.  However, Springfield's Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) gained control of the ball on the draw control and the Owls were unable to regain possession the remainder of the game.

Senior Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) had four goals and two assists to lead the Owls (2-3).  Mason, who leads the Owls with 14 goals and seven assists, needs one more assist to tie the school career mark (67) set by Natalie Kent last season.  Mason already holds Owl career goal (146) and point (212) records.

The game featured several momentum swings. Springfield scored the first three goals of the game.   The Owls came back to net the last three goals of the first half and the first goal of the second half to take a 6-4 lead.  The Pride scored the next six goals to go up 9-6.

Lanaya Nelson (Chester, Conn.) and Lundegarrd each finished with two goals for KSC.  Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.), Amanda Bedell (Syracuse, N.Y.), Spring Silverman (Huntington, Pa.), and Thomas added single tallies for the Pride (2-1).

Mandy Gray (Sharon, Mass.) made nine saves for the Owls while Dena Polverara (West Springfield, Mass.) stopped four shots for Springfield.

The Owls are off until next Wednesday when they host Franklin Pierce (4 p.m.).
