W. Lax: Mason sets Assists Record in Win Over FPC

'KEENE, N.H.  3/30/05 - Michelle Mason had five goals and two assists to lead Keene State College to a 15-10 victory over Division II Franklin Piece College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played Wednesday at Owl Athletic Complex.

With her two assists, Mason sets a KSC career record (68). The senior attackman from Fairport, N.Y., already holds Owl goal (151) and point (219) career marks.  "My teammates look to me to be a leader and that has pushed me to play better," said Mason, who set all three records in just over two seasons.  "It's nice to know that I've set the standard for future Keene State players."

"Michelle is just an amazing athlete," said KSC Coach Emily Johnson.  "Its' hard to imagine what type of numbers she would've put up if she played four years."

Mason has a team high 19 goals, nine assists, and 28 points this season.

Falling behind 3-1, KSC scored five unanswered goals; including two by Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y.), to take a 6-3 lead.  The Owls held an 8-4 halftime lead.

FPC (0-4) closed the deficit to three (9-6) on a free position goal by Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Me.) early in the second half.  KSC responded with a 4-1 spurt to push their lead up to 13-7.

Lundegaard and Lauren Saunders (Fremont, N.H.) finished the game with three goals each.  Michelle Mazzotta (Cromwell, Conn.) had two goals and Christina Honeycutt (Weare, N.H.), and Alexandra Manzin (Avon, Conn.) added single goals for KSC.

Boardman led the Ravens with six goals.  Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass.) and Amanda McIntosh (Madison, N.J.) added two goals each.

KSC goalie Mandy Gray (Sharon, Mass.) tied her career high with 17 saves.  Michaela Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) stopped 11 shots for FPC.

Keene State has won all eight games between the two teams.
