ECAC W. Lax: Owls Upset Endicott 19-13

'Beverly, Mass. - Keene State's women's lacrosse team scored five of the final six goals to pull away fom Endicott College and post a 19-13 upset victory in the semifinals of the ECAC New England Tournament Saturday.

 

 

The victory sends the fourth-seeded Owls (10-8) to Sunday's final against second seed Plymouth State University at Plymouth (3 p.m.).

 

 

Keene State overcame a 10-9 halftime deficit to secure the upset win, avenging a 15-8 loss to Endicott in the March 10 season opener for both teams.

 

 

"We played a great second half. The first half was back and forth. The second half we really turned it on and played extremely well," said Keene State Coach Emily Johnson, whose squad will be seeking its second straight ECAC Championship.

 

 

Keene State senior attackman Michelle Mason scored eight goals, one shy of her career high . Mason tallied four times in the second half. 

 

 

The Owls leading goal-scorer set her carrewr mark in last year's championship game, with her ninth goal coming at the 1:23 mark of sudden death overtime to give the Owls a 17-16 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University.

 

 

Endicott cuased 10 first half tournovers while its shooters converted on 10 of 13 shots.  Lindsey O'Connell scored four of her five goals and notched one assist for the Gulls in the second half. 

 

 

Keene State scored the first four goals of the second half to take the largest lead of the game at 13-10.

 

 

Heather Hatfield answered with a free position goal for the Gulls, but Mason responded with her seventh goal of the night to bring the Owls back to a three goal cushion.

 

 

Endicott cut the lead to two before Keene State scored five consecutive goals, led by Lanaya Nelson with two.

 

 

Erin Curry had a season high 23 saves in net for Endicott, while mandy Gray recorded six saves for the Owls. 

 

 

Kristal Lundegaard and Nelson each scored three goals for Keene State. Alex Manzin and Michelle Mazzotta added two goals each for KSC, while Stephanie Georgevits and Lauren Saunders had one goal each.

 

 

Keene State will be facing PSU for the third time this season.  The lost to the Panthers in the regular season and in the semifinals of the LEC Tournament.
