'NEW LONDON, N.H. - Colby-Sawyer scored four straight goals to
open the second half on its way to posting a come-from-behind 6-3
non-conference victory over Keene State in women's lacrosse action
on Monday afternoon in New London.
Keene State opened the scoring, jumping out to a two-goal lead
after scores by Stephanie Georgevits (Concord, N.H.) and Colleen
Murphy (Mansfield, Mass.) to put the Owls up two midway through the
first half. Tara Stewart scored her first goal of the match with
7:57 to play before the break to cut the margin to 2-1 at halftime.
Stewart would add her second and third tallies of the game in
the first three minutes of the second half, putting the Chargers on
top. Becky Schaffer and Sarah McRoberts added single tallies as the
Chargers slowed the pace of the game and controlled possession,
going up by three, 5-2, with 12:12 to play.
Murphy scored her second goal of the match with 9:14 left in the
game, drawing the Owls within two, but Lisa Giordano scored with
6:47 on a free-position shot to seal the game away for the
Chargers.
Anita Watterson stopped 12 shots in goal for the Chargers, who
improve to 9-3 on the season with the win. Mandy Gray (Sharon,
Mass.) saved 14 shots for the Owls, who fall to 5-8 on the season.
Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Regis in a
Commonwealth Coast Conference match at 3:30 p.m. in New London.
Keene State next travels to New England College on Thursday for a 4
p.m. non-conference contest.
