WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. 11/3/07 - Junior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe,
Conn.) raced to a sixth place finish to lead the Keene State
College men's cross country team to second place at the 2007 ECAC
championship held at the Mt. Greylock Regional High School in
Williamtown, Mass., on Saturday.
Gavaghan, fighting for the final spot on the Owls's varsity,
clocked a time of 25:44 on the 8K course.
The next three Owl runners finished one after another.
Freshman Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) was 12th (26:55),
sophomore Jeff Goupil (Barrington, N.H.) was 13th (26:57), and
junior Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.) finished 14th (27:00).
Freshman Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.) rounded out the KSC scorers
with his 53rd (27:55) finish.
Keene State tallied 96 for its runner-up position in the 37-team
field. Williams (45 points) placed three runners in the
top-10 to win the championship. Wayne Hooper of St. Vincent
(Pa.) College won the race with a time of 26:14.
The KSC women finished eighth with 264 points.
Sophomore Melissa Pelletier (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman
Cassandra Larmand (Greenville, N.H.) finished 38th (24:24) and 39th
(24:28) respectively to lead the Owls on the 6K course.
Sophomore Rita Marcotte (Heath, Mass.) was 45th (24:38), freshman
Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) was 72nd (25:25), and sophomore
Kimber Stannard (Higganum, Conn.) was 80th (25:43.
Katie Moravec of Amherst College won the race with a time of
23:03. Williams won the team title with 47 points.
Keene State races at the New England Regionals next Saturday at
Conn. College.
