'MANSFIELD, CONN. 4/21/07 - The Keene State College women's
lacrosse team dropped a 10-4 Little East Conferecne game to Eastern
Conn. State Universityy in Mansfield, Conn. on Saturday. With the
victory, Eastern (10-4, 5-0 LEC) clinches the top seed in next
month's Little East Conference playoffs and will finish with at
least a share of its first conference regular-season title.
Keene State (5-5, 3-2 LEC) got single goals from Michelle
Mazzotta (Cromwell, Conn.), Lauren Cooper (Danbury, Conn.),
Stephanie Georgevits (Concord, N.H.) and Meagan Moran (Derry,
N.H.).
With Eastern trailing for the only time in the match, 3-2, Jenna
Faiola tied the match on an assist from Kara Bradley midway through
the first half, and put Eastern ahead for good 18 seconds later on
a free-position goal. Faiola had three goals for Eastern.
"Although we lost, I thought we played well," said KSC Coach
Michelle Mason. "I saw a lot of improvement today."
Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) finished the gave with 11 saves
for the Owls. Erin Calkins stopped 12 shots for
ECSU.
Jenna Faiola scored three times to give her a team-best 39 goals
this year and move her to within one of her second straight 40-goal
season.
For Keene, Merrill Simone (West Hartford, Conn.) had nine
ground balls, Melissa Gagnon (Saco, Me.) and Georgevits adding four
each.
Keene State is at Castleton State on Thursday (4 p.m.)
