'KEENE, N.H. 4/5/07 - Freshman attack Melissa Stopera
(Scotia Glenville, N.Y.) scored a season high four goals to lead
the Keene State College women's lacrosse team to a 12-2
non-conference victory over Franklin Pierce College at chilly Owl
Athletic Complex on Thursday.
The Owls improve to 3-3. The Ravens fall to 1-7.
Steph Georgevits (Concord, N.H.) and Andrea Mitchell (Bow, N.H.)
netted the first goals of the game to give KSC a 2-0 lead.
FPC tied the game on goals by Meghan Masterson (Sharon, Mass.) and
Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass.). Savini leads the Ravens with
18 goals.
Keene State added five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 halftime
lead.
Keeping the Ravens off the board, the Owls scored five more
goals in the second half.
Mitchell and Dene Tully (Peabody, Mass.) finished the game with
three goals each and Michelle Mazzotta (Cromwell, Conn.) added a
single tally for the Keene State. Lanaya Nelson (Chester,
Conn.) also chipped in with two assists. Tully leads the Owls in
scoring with 11 goals.
Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn.) had an assist for FPC.
Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) finished the game with 11 saves
for the Owls. Erin Hopkins (Penn Yan, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots
for the Ravens.
Keene State has won all six games between the two teams.
Keene State hosts Rhode Island College in a LEC game on Saturday
(1 p.m.). Franklin Pierce plays at Southern Conn. State on Friday
(5:30 p.m.).
