'KEENE, N.H. 4/7/07 - Andrea Mitchell (Bow, N.H.) and
Lauren Cooper (Danbury, Conn.) netted two goals each to lead the
Keene State College women's lacrosse team to a 9-5 Little East
Conference victory over Rhode Island College at chilly Owl Athletic
Complex on Saturday.
Keene State improves to 4-3 overall and remains undefeated in
LEC play (2-0). It was the LEC opener for RIC (0-4, 0-1 LEC).
The Owls scored the first seven goals of the game and held a 7-1
halftime lead.
Cooper's second goal, her sixth of the season, gave KSC an 8-2
lead five minutes into the second half. A three goals
outburst capped off by Meredith Darby's (Middletown, R.I.) second
goal of the game cut the Owls' lead to 8-5 with 9:06 to play.
Mitchell scored two minutes later to extend KSC's lead to 9-5.
Lanaya Nelson (Chester, N.H.), Michelle Mazzotta (Cromwell,
Conn.), Meagan Moran (Derry, N.H.), Melissa Stopera (Scotia
Glenville, N.Y.), and Ashleigh Baudin (Salem, N.H.) added single
goals for the Owls. It was Baudin's first college goal.
Nelson, who was celebrating her 21st birthday, also chipped in with
three assists.
Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, R.I.) had two goals. She has 14 this
season. Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor, Conn.) also added a goal for
Rhode Island College.
Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) stopped four shots in goal for
KSC. Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor, Conn.) had 10 saves for the
Anchorwomen.
Keene State hosts rival Plymouth State on Thursday (4
p.m.). RIC plays at Elms College on Monday (4 p.m.).
