KEENE, N.H. 2/2/08 - Keene State men's and women's swim teams
completed their respective dual meet schedules with wins over
Gordon College at Spaulding Gym Pool on Saturday.
The Owl men won all 16 events on the way to posting a 107-82
victory and completing their schedule with a perfect 8-0 record.
The KSC women, who won 15 of 16 events, improved its record to 10-1
with a 120-83 victory over the Fighting Scots.
The Owls posted ECAC Open qualifying times in a pair of
events. Freshman Dan Theleen (Southbury, Conn.) had a
qualifying time of 10:07.72 in the 1,000 free and the women's 200
freestyle relay team of freshman Rachel Mondello (Stoneham, Mass.),
sophomores Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.) and Jackie Foster
(Bedford, N.H.), and senior Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.)
recorded a qualifying time of 1:42.88.
Foster also broke the KSC record in the 200 free (158.32).
The previous mark (1:58.50) was set by Lisa Waldelowski in
2004.
The Keene State men had four double winners; Freshman
Mike Germane (Barrington, R.I.) won the 100 free (51.15) and the
200 free (1:50.17), sophomore Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.) won the
50 back (25.84) and the 50 fly (23.99), freshman Quinn Doucette
(Derry, N.H.) won the 100 breast (1:04.53) and the 200 IM (2:09.41)
and freshman Tim Thornton (Fairfield, Conn.) won both the one-meter
(225 points) and the three-meter (246.20 points) diving events.
Single winner for the Owl men included sophomore Mike Fedele
(Sandwich, Mass.) in the 500 free (9:59.11), freshman Lucas
Pozzetta (Merrimack, N.H.) in the 50 free (24.11), freshman Dan
Morse (Hope, R.I.) in the 100 back (1:00.18), sophomore Domingo
Rose (Nashua, N.H.) in the 50 breast (27.95), and freshman John
Farrell (Gardner, Mass.) in the 200 fly (2:07.33). Rose time
in the 50 breast broke his record (28.07) set last season. Farrell
also posted a time of
l1:51 in the 1,000 free, swimming the entire race doing the
fly.
KSC also prevailed in both relay races. Senior Ian
MacAskill (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Pat Luciano (Warren,
N.J.) teamed with Germane and Rose to take the 200 free relay
(1:36.78) and freshmen DJ Collins (Laconia, N.H.) and Karl Balinski
(Waterford, Conn.) joined with Morse and Rose to win the 200 medley
relay (1:45.08).
Senior Shannon McSpiritt (Londonderry, N.H.) and Trutor each won a
pair of races for the Owls. McSpiritt was first to the wall
in the 50 breast (36.99) and the 100 breast (1:19.85) and Trutor
topped the field in the 50 back (29.26) and the 50 fly (27.47).
Sophomore diver Chelsea Peruccio (Glastonbury, Conn.) won the
one-meter (221.10 points) and the three-meter (240.86 points)
diving events.
Six Owls won single races. Senior Kelly Widman (Middlebury,
Conn.) won the 50 free (26.74), senior Liesel Dolce (Jamestown,
R.I) won the 100 back (1:08.71), sophomore Alea Paddock (Newbury,
N.H.) won the 1,000 free (11:31.19), freshman Jessica Laidley
(Brockton, Mass.) won the 200 fly (2:27.06), and junior Katie
Allenson (Clifton Park, N.Y.) won the 200 IM (2:27.98).
Senior Molly Clyborne (Severna Park, Md.) joined junior Kourtney
Lipka (Orrington, Me.), Foster and Trutor to win the 200 medley
relay (2:06.67).
Keene State will now begin to taper for the New England Division
II-III championships. The women's meet is Feb. 15-17 at
UMass-Dartmouth and the men's meet is Feb. 22-24 at Roger Williams.
