Rally Falls Short: Owls Fall to Ravens 17-14

KEENE, N.H.  3/30/09 - The Keene State women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-14 non-conference game to Division II Franklin Pierce University at Owl Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.

The Owls (2-6), rallied from a 14-5 halftime deficit to get within two goals of the Ravens late in the game. Trailing 16-8, KSC netted six straight goals, the last coming on a free position shot by sophomore midfielder Jamie Albert (Southington, Conn.) with 1:47 to play to make it 16-14.

In the closing minute, Albert missed a free position shot and a rebound attempt by junior midfielder Dene Tully (Peabody, Mass.) went wide of the net.

FPC regained possession and got a goal by sophomore attack Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) with 4.2 second left on the clock.

"We're definitely a second half team, so it was good to come back and show what we can do," said Albert, who finished the game with two goals and two assists.

Commenting about her free position shot as the end of the game, Albert said "It's always tough with the free position because you feel it's going to be an easy goal, but it never is."

"Our team has the greatest potential in the world, Albert added.  "I think games like this will help us come together as a team."

Sophomore Emily Persano (Somers, Conn.) had four goals to lead the Owls, who have lost three straight games.  Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Me.), Jenny Lillis (West Islip, N.Y.), and Samantha Benson (Hampstead, N.H.) each had two goals.

Baillargeon had six goals and two assists and sophomore attack Lauren Stille (North, Quincy, Mass.) tallied four goals and three assists for the Ravens (3-3).

Both goalies were kept busy.  Senior Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) made 12 saves for KSC while freshman Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) turned aside 15 shots for FPC.
