KEENE, N.H. 4/6/09 - Keene State sophomore Jamie
Albert (Southington, Conn.) matched the number on her
jersey, scoring a school record 10 goals in a 19-18 overtime loss
to New England College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at
rainy Owl Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.
"I started off hot and just kept on going," said Albert.
"It would have been nice if we were able to win the game, but it
always feels good to help out."
Albert netted five goals in the first half, four in the second,
and one in overtime. Her 10 goals is one more than the previous
record of nine set by Michelle Mason against
Eastern Conn. in the finals of the ECAC championship back on May 9,
2004.
Senior Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) almost matched Albert,
scoring eight goals for the Pilgrims. NEC senior Brandi
Vittum (Woodstock, Vt.) added five goals.
Albert scored the final two goals for the Owls, the last coming
with 1:44 to play in regulation to tie the game at 16-all. KSC
senior goalie Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.)
stopped a free position shot by freshman Amanda Naime (York, Me.)
with 40 seconds to play, sending the game into overtime.
With the game tied 17-all in overtime, Naime and Vittum scored
to give NEC a 19-17 lead. Albert picked up a loose ball and
went in to score her 10th goal of the game with 18 seconds to play.
The Pilgrims got possession on the draw control and ran out the
clock.
Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Me.) and
Jenny Lillis (West Islip, N.Y.) each had two goals
for the Owls (4-7). Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) and Emily
Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) each netted a pair of goals for NEC (4-4).
Gearing finished the game with seven saves for the Owls.
Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) stopped 13 shots for the Pilgrims.
Keene State had won the last seven games between the two teams.
