Keene, N.H. 10/2/10 - Junior Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.)
finished ninth to lead the Keene State men's squad to a
fourth place finish in the Invitational with 94 points at the 16th
Annual Keene State College Cross Country Invitational on
Saturday.
Loonan clocked a time of 26:46 on the five mile course.
"The Dartmouth team was a little intimidating, but I just
tried to stay relaxed and focused and run a good time," said
Loonan. "It's nice to know the course and how to
run it, but it's tough when you don't have the rest of
your varsity pack out there."
Keene State's varsity runners didn't compete in the
race. Freshman Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Me.) was the next Owl
runner to the finish line, placing 15th with a time of 27:03.
Other top finishers for KSC included sophomore Chance Wilk (Burnt
Hills, N.Y.), who placed 33rd with a time of 28:32. Freshman
Chris Chapman (Groton, Conn.) and junior Dan Theleen (Southbury,
Conn.) were right behind finishing in 34th (28:42) and 25th (36th)
place.
Led by Jake Shoemaker, who won the race in a time of 26:01,
Dartmouth swept eight of the top nine spots to run away with the
team championship, scoring 19 points.
Keene State alum Mark Miller placed second in the race with a
time of 26:08.
The Owls run next Saturday at the New England Championships at
Boston's Franklin Park.
