Box Score West Palm Beach, Florida 3/17/10 – The
Keene State College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-15
heartbreaker to Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday afternoon at
Lake Lytel Park in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Junior attack Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station,
N.Y.) took a pass from junior midfielder Jamie
Albert (Southington, Conn.) and gave KSC (2-2) a 15-14
lead with 15:46 remaining in the second half.
After that, Mount Holyoke (3-1) tallied the next three scores,
including a strike from Perry Markell with 10
seconds left, to give the Lyons a 17-15 victory.
The Owls trailed by as many as four in the game, when
MHC's Peggy Wefald scored an unassisted
tally with 1:38 remaining in the first half to make it 12-8.
Keene State rallied, scoring six straight goals, including a
goal from freshman midfielder Lauren Brown (Agawam,
Mass.) with one second left in the first half. Kirk netted
her third of four goals with 19:08 remaining in the game to give
the Owls their biggest lead of the game at 14-12.
Albert and Kirk scored four goals apiece to lead the Owls, while
Albert and Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) had a
team-high six points.
Wefald led all scorers with six goals for MHC.
Owl net minder Alyssa Marinaccio
(Narragansett,R.I.) made 15 saves in the losing effort,
while Lyons goalie Jeanmarie Peterson made 10
saves in the victory.
KSC was outshot 38-32 and grabbed fewer groundballs at 28-24.
The Owls will continue to play on the road, as they will travel
to Springfield College for a 7 p.m. game on March 23rd.
