Women's Lacrosse: Owls rout Chargers 21-4

Box Score

KEENE, N.H. 4/19/10 – Sophomore Caitlyn Corace (Mahopac, N.Y.) tied her season high with six goals and junior Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) broke her own school record with nine assists as Keene State College rolled to a 21-4 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Colby-Sawyer College in Keene on Monday afternoon.

Keene State which extends its winning streak to seven games (one shy of the school record), improves to 9-3.  The 21 goals is the biggest offensive outburst for the Owls since tallying 22 against Salem State in 2003 and Norwich in the 2008 season.  Colby-Sawyer (3-10) suffered its fourth straight loss.

The Owls scored the last seven goals of the first half to take an 11-3 lead and never looked back.

Junior Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scored a season high five goals to go with three assists while junior Jamie Albert netted a pair.

Sawyer broke her game assists record with 49 seconds to play in the game when she set up a goal by sophomore Adrienne Itri (Braintree, Mass.).  “My attackers were making good cuts and getting open,” said Sawyer. My teammates made it easy for me.”

Senior Elaina Kennedy (Sunderland, Mass.) had two of the Chargers' four goals.

Sophomore Alyssa Marinaccio (Narragansett, R.I.) and freshman Christine Collins (Cheshire, Conn.) each played a half in goal for KSC.  Marinaccio made five saves while Collins stopped three shots.

Freshman Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, Vt.) had a busy day in goal for CSC, making 15 saves.

Keene State hosts Castleton State on Wednesday.
