Owl laxwomen fall in shootout to Springfield 20-14

KEENE, N.H. 3/22/11 – Keene State College came up on the short end of a 20-14 shootout to Springfield College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

Junior midfielder Jackie Moscardelli (Weymouth, Mass.) scored six goals and sophomore attack Allie Davis (Fairfield, Conn.) finished with five goals and two assists to lead the Pride (3-10.  

Keene State (1-3) was led by the senior trio of Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Jamie Albert (Southington, Conn.) and Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) .  Kirk and Albert netted four and three goals respectively while Sawyer had two goals and five assists.

The Owls scored three of the first four goals of the game to go up 3-1.  After a free position goal by Albert tied the score at 8-all, Springfield (3-1) scored the last five goals of the half to go up 12-8 at the break. 

Keene State cut the lead to 13-10 on consecutive goals by junior Caitlyn Corace (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Sawyer early in the second half, but a pair of goals off the stick of Moscardelli pushed the Prides lead back up to 15-10. 

Sophomore Nicole Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) and Corace each had two goals for KSC.  Sophomore Lauren Brown (Agawam, Mass.) also found the back of the net for the Owls.

Springfield had a slim advantage in shots (30-28) and ground balls (23-22).

Freshman Erin Taylor (Brewster, N.Y.) finished the game with six saves for the Owls.  Freshman Anne Versprille (Franklin, Mass.) turned aside eight shots for the Pride.

Keene State hosts #19 Bowdoin College on Thursday (5:30 p.m.).  Springfield College is at Wheaton College on Saturday.
