Owl Men Place 4th at LEC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. 4/28/12 – The Keene State College men's track and field team finished in fourth place at the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon hosted by Westfield State University. Senior Kevin Hoyt (Newtown, Conn.), junior Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.), sophomore Angus Fisher (Northampton, Mass.) and freshman Blake Pearson (Alstead, N.H.) each took home individual titles to lead the men to 86 points in the meet.

Hoyt led the Owls on the track, winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:19.05. Also garnering top-three finishes on the track, junior Chance Wilk (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) placed 2nd in the conference in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, while sophomore Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) finished third in the 1,500 meter race.

In the field events, Guilmette earned his first LEC Championship in the Javelin, with a toss of 201'. Junior Marcus Ferenc (Westmoreland, N.H.) earned third place with a heave of 175'-8'', while freshman Ben Keach (Newfields, N.H.) placed fourth with a toss of 170'-1'' in the event.

Pearson, a freshman from nearby Alstead, N.H., won the pole-vault with a leap of 13'-3.5''.

Fisher took home the last individual title in the discus throw, with a chuck of 143'-2''. Keach also had a top three finish in the event, earning third place with a toss of 135'-5''.

Rounding out the top three finishes for the Owls, junior Phillip Elmer (Cohoes, N.Y.) placed third in the conference in the 16-lb hammer, with a toss of 124'-5''.

KSC totaled 86 points to finish in fourth place, finishing behind UMass Dartmouth (162), Southern Maine (149) and Rhode Island College (91).

The track team will return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they will head to Division III New England Championships at M.I.T.
