SPRINGFIELD, MASS. 11/16/13 – Keene State College senior Drew Ledwith won three individual races and swam a leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay to lead the sixth ranked Owls to dual meets wins over Springfield College and Wheaton College in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday.
Keene State improved its dual meet mark to 4-1 with a 212-88 win over Springfield College and a 230.5-67.5 victory against Wheaton College.
Senior Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook) each won a race and were members of the winning 400 free relay for the 15th ranked Keene State women's swim team (3-2) which defeated Wheaton (225-54), but came up short against Springfield (160-133).
The Keene State men won 13 of the 16 events at the meet. Ledwith won the 200 freestyle (1:44.21), the 200 back (1:59.58) and the 500 free (4:35.08),
Other first place finishers were posted by sophomore Matthew Ahlberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 1,000 free (10:11.30), freshman Christopher Barriss (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 100 back (53.59), sophomore Cole Hogg (Manchester, N.H.) in the 200 fly (1:57.46), sophomore Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.) in the 50 free (21.36), senior James Black (Lynn, Mass.) in the 100 free (47.43), senior Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) in the 200 breast (2:14.28), senior Dan Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.) in the 100 fly (53.37) and senior Josh Tuller (Plainview, N.Y.) in three-meter diving (290.45 points).
Freshman Nathan Shepard (Keene, N.H.) teamed with Barriss, Hyde and Youngstrom to win the 200 medley relay (1:36.27). While the foursome of sophomore Shahar Resman (Ashdod, Israel), freshman Ryan Boraski (North Attleboro, Mass.), Ledwith and Hogg won the 400 free relay (3:09.13).
In the women's competition, Murray won the 200 back (2:12.77), DaSilva placed first in the 100 back (1:00.95), junior Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) won the 200 fly (2:13.21) and senior Alexis Houser (New Hope, Pa.) was the first to touch the wall in the 200 I.M. (2:16.86).
Sophomores Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) and Brianna Laliberte (Candia, N.H.) joined DaSilva and Murray to win the 400 free relay (3:42.29).
The Keene State men's team will be back in the pool on Sunday, traveling to the University of Vermont for a meet with Bryant University (1 p.m.).
