SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. 3/30/13 – The Owls had a field day at the Mount Holyoke Spring Fling Track and Field Invitational in South Hadley, Mass. Keene Sate men's and women's track teams combined to win 17 events at the meet.
Capturing the national indoor championship a few weeks ago, senior Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.) began her outdoor season with a bang by winning the long jump (16'-08.00"), the 100-meter hurdles (15.16) , and the 200 (27.27). She also teamed up with senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.), and freshmen Allison Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) and Lauren Markoe (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) to win the 4x400 relay (4:14.50).
Fitter also had a fine day, winning the 400 (1:01.30) and the 1,500 (4:49.01) races.
Also on the track, junior Erin Crawford (Townsend, Mass.) won the 10K (44:33.34), and sophomore Kaley Mientkiewicz (Hanson, Mass.) won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:57.65).
In field events, senior Whitney Cyr (Milford, Mass.) won the hammer (124'-0.8"), sophomore Courtney Hartwell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won the discus (119'-03.00"), junior Nicole Marrero (Bristol, Conn.) won the javelin (112'02.00") and freshman Lucia Martin (Swanzey, N.H.) won the pole vault (9'-00.25").
The Keene State men's track team set three stadium marks. Senior Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.) set his mark with his first place finish in the javelin (211'-03.00'), sophomore Ben Keach's mark (Newfield, N.H.) was set in the shot put (48'-03.25) while indoor All-America Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) set his stadium record with his first place finish in the 1,500 (3:56.69). Widzgowski also won the 800 (1:58.20).
Freshman Mark Rabasco (Pittsfield, Mass.) won the 5,000 (16:30.54).
The other first place finishes came in field events with Keach winning the discus (136'07.00) and freshman Robert Palazzo (Providence, R.I.) taking first in the hammer (132'-9.00").
