Box Score KEENE, N.H. 4/16/13 – Sophomore Rachael Fistori (Medford, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal with 2:31 to play and Plymouth State University held off a late charge in the closing seconds by Keene State College to post a come-from-behind 10-9 Little East Conference victory at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
Keene State (7-6, 2-2 LEC) saw its five game winning streak come to an end. Plymouth State (8-2, 3-0 LEC) extends its winning streak to four games and remains undefeated in the LEC and tied with Southern Maine on top of the conference standings.
The back-and-forth game featured three lead changes and six ties in the first half. Senior Lauren Brown's (Agawam, Mass.) third goal of the half with 31 seconds to go gave KSC a slim 7-6 lead at the half.
Keene State added to its lead at the 3:08 mark of the second half when freshman Kaitlin Nolan (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored on a free position shot to make it an 8-6 game.
Sophomore Amy McDonald (Hull, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal three minutes later to cut the Owls lead to 8-7.
Senior Nicole Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) gave Keene State back its two goal lead (9-7) when she finished off a pass from sophomore Ashley Borjeson (Londonderry, N.H.) with 9:55 to play in the game.
Keene State couldn't hold onto the lead. The Panthers scored the final three goals of the game to net the comeback win. Senior Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, N.H.) scored an unassisted goal and a free position goal in a span of two minutes to tie the score (9-9) at the 17:09 mark.
Sophomore goalie Casey Curran (Framingham, Mass.) made a couple of big saves on shots by Nolan and junior Lindsay McManus (Dover, N.H.) to keep the score knotted.
Gaining possession with 10 minutes to play, the Panthers went into a stall, holding the ball until sophomore Meghan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.) set up Fistori for the game-winning goal.
PSC appeared to be in control when they won the draw control, but freshman Christa Demovellan (Westwood, Mass.) got the ball back for the Owls with a cause turnover with just over a minute to play.
Brown got a shot off with 12 seconds to play, but Curran made the save to secure the win for Plymouth State.
Brown scored three goals and McManus netted a pair to lead the Owls' offense.
McDonald Swanson each had three goals and sophomore Shannon Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) found the back of the net twice for PSU.
Junior Erin Taylor (Brewster, N.Y.) finished the game with six saves for the Owls.
Junior Loren Field (Hollis, N.H.) started in goal for the Panthers and made four saves in her 40:50 between the pipes. Curran played 19:10 and had three saves.
Curry had three ground balls and three draw controls for KSC. Sophomore Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) had eight draw controls for the Panthers.
Both teams have LEC games on Saturday. Keene State hosts UMass-Dartmouth (1 p.m.) and Plymouth State entertains Western Conn. (12 p.m.)
